Abstract
In light of the controversies surrounding this regulatory framework, this study examines the provisions of the AIA concerning remote biometric identification systems, with a particular focus on facial recognition technologies. It further analyses the implications of these systems for citizens' rights and freedoms, juxtaposed against the expected security benefits, to assess whether their use by states is justified or if their prohibition is warranted.
